Just because it lowers YOUR (or any user's) electric bill does not mean that using it is good for the planet, results in less pollution, less energy use, less waste of resources. Very often the opposite is the case but you do not notice since other people/future generations get to pay.
Every time the word "gadget" is mentioned here it is about examples of the life-style of those who have much more than enough. None of those products promote simple living. They promote and support living as if all we have to do is just change a little bit and it will be all OK.
If lightening your electric bill is the issue (= save money) - use a few gadgets less. That will do the trick AND use less energy, pollute less, etc.
If saving the environment is the issue - simplify your life. Live without gadgets. Get what you need to live, not what makes your convenient lives more entertaining. Get things you can keep until you die and it still work then. Get things made from natural materials. Get fewer things in general. Get used to living less conveniently (which will result in less time for gadgets).
Are we all addicted to consumption? How will children learn that we cannot continue as we have if adults do not restrain themselves?
Call it "cool" if it is sustainable, necessary, and wise. Green-washing seems to be working even at GreenDaily.
